This hyper-salty lake lies on the border of Jordan to the east and Israel to the west, and is a truly unique place.
1. Thelowest place in the world
The height of the Dead Sea shoreline is 423 metres below sea level. It is the lowest place in the world.
2. Thedeepest hyper salt lake in the world
The Dead Seais 377 m deep. Ahyper salt lake is an inland body of Water that contains significant concentrations of Sodium Chloride and other mineral salts. Salt levels exceed ocean Water levels.
3. Itisone of the saltiest bodies of Water in the world
The Dead Seahas a salinity of 33.7%. Although Lake Assal (Djibouti), Garabogazköl, and some hyper-saline lakes in the McMurdo Dry Valley of Antarctica (such as Don Juan Pond) have recorded higher salinities.
4.You won't drown
Due to the unusually high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea , people can easily swim and are buoyed up by natural buoyancy. In this respect, the Dead Sea is similar to the Great Salt Lake in Utah.
5. TheDead Sea is 8.6 times saltier than the ocean
This salinity causes harsh living conditions that are not conducive to animals. Hence the name Dead Sea. The high salinity prevents macroscopic AQUAtic organisms such as fish and AQUAtic plants fromliving in it, although small amounts of bacteria and microbial fungi are present.
6. The Dead Sea is 67 kilometers long
and18 kilometers wide at its widest point. It is located in the Jordan Rift Valley and is mainly fed by the Jordan River.

7.Minerals heal
The Dead Sea area has become a major centre for health research and treatment for a number of reasons. Each feature of the Dead Sea has specific effects on human health. These include the mineral content of the Water, the very low levels of Pollen and other allergens in the atmosphere, the reduced ultraviolet component of solar radiation and the higher atmospheric pressure at great depth.
8. Theworld's first baths
Biblically, the Dead Sea was King David's retreat. It was one of the first bathing resorts in the world, also for Herod the Great. Even then, a wide range of products were made from the precious minerals, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.
9.Discharging asphalt
An unusual feature of the Dead Sea is its discharge of asphalt. From the deep depths, the Dead Sea continually washes up small stones and pieces of black matter. Asphalt figurines and Neolithic skulls made of resin have been found at archaeological sites. The Egyptians used asphalt imported from the Dead Sea region to mummify bodies.
10. Thelowest road in the world, Highway 90
runsalong the Israeli coast and the western shore of the Dead Sea at 393 meters below sea level.
